2024 Reflection

Back to Blog

As I look back on 2024, I am struck by how much clarity comes from reflecting on both triumphs and challenges.  A few of these goals are measurable and a few are simply intentions. They are printed off and placed on the wall, so that I can easily view throughout the year. It is important for me to stay focused, as I tend to wander. I can say ‘yes’ to things that are not aligned with these goals and intentions. This year there were several times where I found myself saying “Why am I here?” – Do not get me wrong, I chose to engage because I agreed to the work, but it had me wondering what if I had said ‘no’ and contributed my time elsewhere.

“This year, my goals felt deeply intertwined with the journey Parker Palmer describes in Let Your Life Speak.” –

Your vocation is a journey to your authentic self and is ultimately life giving to you and the people you serve. – paraphrased

The book that I most enjoyed reading – in fact, I think I read it about three times this year spoke to me about the importance of being honest with yourself and being your true self. He shared several paragraphs about how life and vocation is about shedding the ought self and moving to your true self. The greatest joy in vocation is when you true self intersects with the greatest needs of the world.

One of the great personal highlights of the year –

My daughter getting married. I was able to see her before the ceremony – we shared tears and laughed.  I was so happy for her and I cried all weekend long knowing that things will never be the same again. The greatest paradox for parents is wanting them to go and then saddened when they are indeed gone.

One of the great professional highlights of the year with Open Pivot – (aside from all my client work)

Indy’s Most Pivotal Leaders – I so enjoyed connecting and celebrating so many of Indy’s great leaders

One of the greatest professional highlights with Purdue University –

Teaching over 250 students in 2024. I am not sure there is a greater joy than teaching. I see their faces, their expectancy, their hope and their enthusiasm and it is inspiring and a privilege for me.

I do not know what 2025 will hold, but I do know my aspiration is to see my family, friends, clients and teachers flourish and succeed – all of this is done by doing what I love – connecting, coaching, teaching and training.

Happy New Year!
