Top 3 Leadership Concepts

Back to Blog

The Top 3 Leadership Concepts blog is one of my most favorite blog posts in the history of blogging.  Are you ready and as excited as I am?  I love to read about this topic.

As I have navigated my career, I have sat under the leadership of at least 10 individuals.  Some of these individuals were leaders for a short amount of time and some for years at a time. As I have reflected and read about leadership over the years and I have boiled this down to 3, count ’em 3 concepts that are my favorite.  Here are my Top 3 Leadership Concepts:

1. The Well Differentiated Leader: This is about knowing where you end and where someone begins.  It is about managing your anxiety, stress, anger, fear and longing for security and keeping this at bay while leading others.  You should just watch this video. It is a great study on well differentiated leadership.

2. A Self-Aware Leader: Simply put this is a leader that knows what his “triggers” are and what could “derail” him and others through his behavior.

3. The Inspirational Leader: The inspirational leader sees his primary purpose to inspire others around a cause, a purpose or an event.  He understands that the majority of us live uninspired lives and if he / she can just inspire another to an excellent performance, then he has indeed been successful.

Ok groupies, this is all fine and dandy, but how many of us own and I mean own these concepts for ourselves or sit under the leadership of a well differentiated leader, a self-aware leader and an inspirational leader? I don’t know the answer to this and I will venture to say that it is not common.

Next post I am gonna talk and type about how to apply these concepts practically at home and in the workplace.
